Right away Steven Spielberg's paw prints are all over this brand new trailer for J.J. Abrams' 'Super 8' -- a film that, up until now, has been shrouded in mystery. Is it another 'Cloverfield,' or is it more like early Spielberg ('E.T.,' 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind')?

The answer appears to be a mix of both. The 'Super 8' trailer that debuted during the Super Bowl gives us more than we've seen before, and what it amounts to is an action-packed alien flick set inside a small town -- except, unlike 'E.T.,' this alien doesn't look all that friendly. That said, you still have your honest-looking Midwestern kids running and leaping over neighborhood yards, stuck right smack in the middle of the biggest event in any of their lives. Frankly, it looks pretty cool and very nostalgic (kids of the late-'70s and '80s are gonna love this one).

Speaking about the film to The Los Angeles Times, Abrams said, "To me, all people need to know is that it's an adventure about a small town and it's funny, it's sweet, it's scary, and there's a mystery: What is this thing that has escaped? What are the ramifications of its presence? And what is the effect on people? But I know that's not enough. Look, I feel we need a little bit of a coming-out party because we are up against massive franchises and brands and most people don't know what 'Super 8′ means. We're a complete anomaly in a summer of huge films ... and we don't want to be so silent or coy that people don't care or don't hear about it."

The film takes place in Ohio in 1979, and it tracks a group of six kids making their own homemade zombie movie who run into a nasty train wreck. Out of that train wreck, however, something emerges. Something ... that's not at all human.

'Super 8' arrives in theaters on June 10. Let us know what you think of the new trailer below.
