The actress' father, Abul Azad, was woken by his son, Ashraf, who was prompting the patriarch to "sort his daughter out" and calling her a "slag." From there, Ashraf encouraged his father to "just kill her,' while they assaulted her. Azad fled the Manchester home through her bedroom window after she heard her father saying "he would do it" and was willing to do time for it (amounting to an honor killing). He also threatened to drag her to Bangladesh and force her into an arranged marriage.
After their arrest, the court was unable to charge the men for their crimes because Azad refused to pursue further legal action. "The proceedings have caused me no end of distress and if it goes ahead, it will make things much worse for me," the actress told lawyers. Abul has been cleared of the charges and both men posted bail under the condition that they "keep the peace." Ashraf pleaded guilty to one count of assault and will return to court in January for sentencing.
