There was some concern with the first peek about the little green space man -- his look and just how strange it is to hear Seth Rogen's voice booming out of that CG creation. But with the latest full-length trailer, it's obvious why Rogen's the alien, and the whole affair is looking like a cross between 'Shaun of the Dead,' 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' and 'Men in Black.'
With two and a half minutes to play with, it's definitely finding a better footing. The film focuses on a pair of nerds on their way to Comic Con when they come across an alien escaping Area 51. They decide to help him get home before the government officials get their hands on him again.
While detained for 60 years, alien Paul definitely had some access to modern culture, specficially -- what seems to have been a neverending cycle of Rogenesque comedy. Paul's a have-fun slacker type who likes to make jokes and talk about sex. He's not making sweet phone-home pronouncements with glowing finger, but rather mooning and flashing his new human friends.
On top of the Pegg and Frost moments, there's also a lot more of Kristen Wiig to dig into -- as the woman who joins quest to free Paul, and Jason Bateman looking very 'Men in Black.' (Will this lead to a cameo in 'MIB 3'?)
Overall, it doesn't incite the glee of 'Hot Fuzz' (though I'm sure nothing could), but the Pegg/Frost comedy looks intact, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.
