'The Beaver,' in which Mel Gibson plays a man who attempts to break out of his lethargy by communicating with the world via a beaver puppet, may seem like an odd comeback vehicle for the actor. On the other hand, given the amount of buzz the movie -- directed by and co-starring Jodie Foster -- has been generating, it could be exactly what Gibson needs to resurrect his career.

And now, the first official trailer for the film has just hit the web -- and it's a doozy, as they say. Check it out after the jump.

Set to the song 'Swim Until You Can't See Land' by Frightened Rabbit, the trailer shows just the right touch of "WTF?" black comedy we've been anticipating ever since Kyle Killen's script was pronounced one of the best unproduced screenplays of 2008. And it's nice to see Gibson doing comedy again -- not to mention speaking with an Australian accent.
