And now, we know that one half of that final equation has fallen into place. Producer Charles Roven confirmed to Coming Soon that Mr. Tom Hanks has officially signed on to the project.
It's strange to think that only a decade ago, Bigelow was known to audiences as the director of the absurdly silly minor action classic 'Point Break' (although the vampire western 'Near Dark' is easily the shining highlight of her early career). Even stranger to think that she made 'The Hurt Locker' after a seven-year absence following the critical and financial failure of the submarine flick 'K-19: The Widowmaker,' a film that seemed to leave her career a little dead in the water -- pun intended.
What a difference an Academy Award can make! If 'The Hurt Locker' is any indication of her career to come, Bigelow can continue to make tremendous action movies, but now she can win awards and her work can be called politically relevant and she can attract big names like Hanks to her projects. It's a win-win scenario for everyone involved! Not to mention, the titular location sounds like the perfect place for a tale of betrayal and murder and crime and whatever else Bigelow surely has up her sleeve.
'Triple Frontier' is set to begin filming in February.
