We were tickled pink (as in Miss Piggy) when we discovered earlier this year that the Muppets would be back on the big screen (in Disney's working-titled 'The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made') and now we're even more tickled to find out that Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones are in negotiations to join the film.
According to reports at Hollywood Insider and The Hollywood Reporter, Adams will sign on to play the girlfriend of previously announced lead Jason Segel, whom she joins on a road trip to Los Angeles to help reunite the Muppets' to save their movie studio, which is under threat by greedy oil company villain Chris Cooper. Jones would play an ABC exec.
The script for the film, the first big screen Muppet outing since 1999's 'Muppets From Space,' was written by Segel and Nicholas Stoller (director of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' and 'Get Him to the Greek'). James Bobin (co-director of 'Flight of the Conchords') will helm the action.
Production is set to begin in November in Los Angeles. Disney has set Christmas 2011 for its release date.
