With buzz still building for Darren Aronofsky's 'Black Swan' (scheduled for a Dec. 1 release), rumors are now swirling around that the director is the sole contender to helm Fox's 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2.'

According to Deadline, Aronofsky and David Slade were the chief competitors for the gig after Robert Schwentke removed himself from the job, but the scale tilted in Aronofsky's favor after 'Black Swan.' In addition, it doesn't hurt that 'Wolverine' star Hugh Jackman has a close relationship with Aronofsky after they worked together on 'The Fountain'; there were reports that Jackman would have final say on the matter.

Deadline reports that Aronofsky recently met with Fox chief Tom Rothman "to be sure he would get the kind of creative controls to which he is accustomed ... it is his job if he wants it and they are talking."

Do you think Aronofsky would make a good fit with the Marvel superheroes?
