We still may know little to nothing about J.J. Abrams' 'Super 8,' but, odds are, Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning are in the loop. What makes them so special? According to Vulture, they're the very first to be cast in the film. Any day now they'll have to pack their bags and head to Weirton, West Virginia where the supposed three-month shoot is set to begin sometime before the end of the month. It should come as no surprise that there are zero details concerning their characters.

In fact, even the teaser attached to 'Iron Man 2' back in May (watch after the jump) and the cryptic messages uncovered on ScariestThingIEverSaw.com just left us with more questions: What's inside the train car? What's the phrase "No certainty if alive. May be after us. We go underground," referring to? What do Rocket Poppeteers have to do with anything? The rumored casting calls don't even reveal any juicy details. The Weirton Daily Times revealed that during a school assembly about big time moviemaking, students were informed that some Hollywood folks were on the hunt for 2,000 extras. Then there's the one story on Bloody Disgusting involving two boys and a girl between the ages of 13 and 14, though we were under the assumption J.J. Abrams was searching for all unknowns. Fanning falls just shy of that age range, though, so maybe she could be playing Natalie, one of the lead characters? It's possible.

There's really no use in speculating at this point. Between Abrams' cryptic viral marketing and the swarms of rumors out there, it's impossible to attain any degree of certainty. Even Chandler and Fanning's casting can't be considered a guarantee just yet. Regardless of Vulture's track record in scoops, the information comes from "a source with knowledge of the matter," not an official press release. Assuming they did get the gigs, Chandler and Fanning are certainly an excellent start. Chandler's amassed quite the fanbase portraying coach Eric Taylor on 'Friday Night Lights' and Fanning is proving she's just as talented, if not more so, than her big sis, Dakota.

There's no way 'Super 8' can stay completely under wraps for much longer. With a cast coming together, a massive team of extras beings collected and a rumored $45 million production budget being put to use, this one will certainly grow out of its hiding place soon.
