This year, it's a new crop of new filmmakers -- Rachel Weisz, Eva Mendes, and Jessica Biel.
Reuters reports that the three actresses were presented with a collection of finalists, and then picked the story they wanted to film. This year, there's a feel-goodie theme of "doing good." (I kinda wish that next year it means there will be "doing bad," but I guess celebrating real-life lawlessness isn't really a good message.)
Weisz's short is scheduled to go into production this month, and the piece is mum about what it will entail. However, the other two women have shot theirs, and there are some teaser nibblets. Mendes' film is called California Romanza. It features Christina Ricci, Daniel Stern, Kathy Najimy, and Troy Garity. Biel's, meanwhile, is Sodalis, which focuses on two young girls who are best friends. She describes it as "do good for your loved one, your best friend; do good for yourself."
The trio of films will be showcased in LA this October, and will likely find their way onto the Internet sometime after that. In case there wasn't enough do-goodness in this post already, the films benefit a women's program for FilmAid International, which "uses the power of film to help displaced refugees around the world."
