We did know that it was about a San Francisco psychic (Matt "Invictus" Damon) who's asked for help from the families of victims of several recent tragedies -- subway bombings, tsunamis and the like. The tone seems appropriately graceful coming from Eastwood, although there is the occasional clunky line or two (not every movie psychic should have to say "it's not a gift, it's a curse") and although this is, of course, only a minute or two by which to judge an entire movie. (That hasn't stopped me before.)
We might get early word out of Toronto from the film's one screening this weekend, before it then goes on to closes out the New York Film Festival next month. At any rate, we should hear whither Hereafter is worthy of contention, or even just worthy of your attention, before it opens everywhere on October 22nd.
