School's in full swing across the country, and the studios haven't released too many family friendly titles this week. So it's still a good weekend to keep the brood indoors for your homemade family movie night, unless you have older teens and live in one of the select cities where the Sundance sports indie 'The Winning Season' is playing.

Otherwise here's a mix of titles -- at least one of which is bound to please someone in your clan, from preschoolers to parents. And in case you're looking for a comedy to cuddle up with after the kids are asleep, check out suggestion No. 10; it's just for grown-ups.

Stardust1. For Fantasy Romance: 'Stardust' (PG-13) - on DVD
Who's In It: Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro
Why See It: This adaptation of Neil Gaiman's young-adult fantasy is funny and romantic and should appeal equally to boys, girls and parents. Families who enjoyed 'The Princess Bride' will also dig this enchanting tale of young Tristan (Charlie Cox) who finds a beautiful fallen star named Yvaine (Danes) tries to bring her back to the girl he fances, only to end up on an adventure that features power-hungry witches (Pfeiffer), cross-dressing pirate captains (De Niro) and a whole lot of falling in love.

The Winning Season2. For Athletes: 'The Winning Season' (PG-13) -- in select theaters
Who's In It: Sam Rockwell, Emma Roberts, Margo Martindale
Why See It: This isn't your typical inspirational sports flick about a team of misfits who go on to athletic glory. Well, it sort of is, but there's no pat happy ending, and the basketball coach (Rockwell) can be downright unlikable -- when he's not inspiring a team of misfit teen girls, anyway. All of the girls give impressive performances, and viewers up on their latest movie-casting news will get to meet Rooney Mara, who will play Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's adaptation of 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.'

Marmaduke3. For Dog Lovers: 'Marmaduke' (PG) -- on DVD
Who's In It: Owen Wilson, Emma Stone, George Lopez
Why See It: There's some sort of gravitational pull that movies with talking animals have over a huge percentage of kids. The formula goes like this: animals + CGI + funny star voices = happy kids. I won't lie and say this comedy is on the same level as, say, 'Babe' or 'Homeward Bound,' but middle-schoolers are ridiculously easy to please -- dog flatulence humor goes a long way with eight and nine-year-old boys, especially.

Camp Rock 24. For Disney Musical Kids: 'Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam' (NR) -- on DVD
Who's In It: Joe Jonas, Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas
Why See It: Yet another wave of kids is now growing up on Disney, which is to say, obsessed with young Disney triple threats like the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. In this sequel to the popular made-for-TV movie 'Camp Rock,' Mitchie (Lovato) returns to Camp Rock with the Gray brothers, only to find that a rival camp across the lake threatens to steal their camp's best and brightest. Kids 8-12 will love the original musical performances, and little girls will squeal over the JoBros.

School of Rock5. For Musical Kids: 'School of Rock' (PG) -- on DVD
Who's In It: Jack Black, Joan Cusack, Mike White
Why See It: Black has made a ton of movies, but as far as general audiences go, this comedy collaboration with Richard Linklater is on top of the heap. As a guitarist moonlighting as a substitute teacher after his bandmates give him the boot, Black is pitch-perfect ushering his class of fifth-grade prep-school kids to 'Battle of the Bands' rock glory. As a bonus, Nickelodeon fans will get a kick out of seeing a very young Miranda Cosgrove rock out.

Fiddler on the Roof6. For Musical Theater Kids: 'Fiddler on the Roof' (PG) - on DVD
Who's In It: Topol, Norma Crane, Paul Michael Glaser
Why See It: In tribute to those celebrating the High Holy Days, here is one of the best movie musicals of all time, where girls dream of who Yente the matchmaker will bring them (definitely not the old butcher), fathers what their lives would be like if they were "a rich man," and everyone of what "Tradition!" means to the Jewish population of Anatevka. This isn't just a musical, it's also a sobering lesson in what Jews Beyond the Pale had to live through, and the musical is unforgettable.

Cinderella7. For Little Princesses: 'Cinderella'
(G) -- on DVD
Who's In It: Ilene Woods, Eleanor Audley, Verna Felton
Why See It: If my five-year-old daughter could only see one princess movie, this week it would Cinderella. The story is hard to resist: she's humble and kind; she's a friend to even the lowliest of animals (those mice make it up to her, though; they even make her first dress for the ball!); she's a believer in fairy godmothers and love at first sight. Even when her stepmother and stepsisters are their most evil, Cinderella always rises above the hatred; and naturally she gets her prince in the end.

Up8. For Animation Domination: 'Up' (PG) -- on DVD
Who's In It: Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, Jordan Nagai
Why See It: There are admittedly a couple of scenes that might frighten a preschool Pixar fan (those robotic dogs!), but otherwise this is one of Pixar's animated masterpieces. I don't know any happily married moviegoer who didn't cry during that opening sequence about Carl and Ellie's life together. And the friendship that Carl and young Wilderness Explorer Russell form on his ballooning-house adventure is the stuff of multi-generational legend. It's a beautiful journey for the entire family.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief9. For Mythology Buffs: 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief' (PG) -- on DVD
Who's In It: Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario
Why See It: If your kid has read the books (my eight-year-old can't get enough of them), chances are you've already checked out this adaptation of the first in Rick Riordan's bestselling series. Following demigod Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, on a mission to Hades, this fantasy adventure doubles as a lesson in Greek mythology. With Uma Thurman popping up as Medusa and Jackson as a witty satyr, the movie may not be as earth-shattering as the book, but it's sure to entertain your elementary schoolers.

Date Night10. For Parents After Bedtime: 'Date Night' (PG-13) -- on DVD
Who's In It: Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Mark Wahlberg
Why See It: Sometimes, it's good to watch something sans offspring, and this is just the comedy to make you and your spouse cringe and cackle in familiarity. Feel the need to have a proper, exciting date night? Be careful what you wish for, as Carell and Fey prove in this comedy of married couple errors. So get the kidlets tucked in and settle in on the sofa to watch two of Hollywood's smartest comedians do what they do best -- make you laugh. Plus, there's shirtless Wahlberg for the ladies.
