New Line Cinema's 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' is really picking up steam. Just last week it was announced that Dwayne Johnson was joining the cast of the sequel to 'Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D' and now Variety reports that Michael Caine is in talks to co-star in the film.

In the sequel, which will be shot and released in 3D, Josh Hutcherson returns as teenage adventurer Sean Anderson who goes on a search to find his missing grandfather (Caine). The film, directed by Brad Peyton, is scheduled to begin shooting in the fall in Hawaii and North Carolina. New Line has pegged a Sept. 23, 2011 release date for the production.
