From the moment they first debuted back in 1989, Bill and Ted have been one of those perfect teams -- like Simon and Garfunkel, chocolate and peanut butter or Dolce and Gabbana, they were just made to go together. Yet despite this synergy, for the last 19 years rumors of a third 'Bill & Ted' film have been just that -- rumors only. Now, though, word of a possible breakthrough has come from a most excellent source: Bill himself.

Yes, it's true: according to Movieweb, Alex Winter, who played Bill in both 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure' and 'Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey,' plans for a third 'Bill & Ted' film are moving forward. Speaking at a 'Bill & Ted' retrospective, Winter told the audience that, as Movieweb puts it, "plans for another chapter in this comedy franchise were currently being ironed out." Speaking at a 'Bill & Ted' retrospective, Winter told the audience that, as Movieweb puts it, "plans for another chapter in this comedy franchise were currently being ironed out."

And that ironing is coming from the franchise's highest minds, as Winter has been meeting with original 'Bill & Ted' writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson along with Keanu Reeves, who has been stumping for a chance to reprise his role as Ted for years.

Before you get too excited, though, it should be pointed out that 'Bill & Ted' is currently in the very, very early stages of development; Winter and Reeves are still "kicking around ideas" regarding the story's plot, but so far what they have come up with has been "far too dark for children to see."

Personally, we'd love to see a darker, more adult 'Bill & Ted;' the children can go watch 'SpongeBob Squarepants' or something. But regardless of what direction 'Bill & Ted 3' ends up going in, we'll be waiting with bated breath, even if, as Winter later tweeted, the "idea of a 3rd sequel is nothing more than a lark" for the time being.

So, what do you think? Excited about the prospect of a third 'Bill & Ted' film? Or do you think the prospect of, say, Bill and Ted dealing with their own teenage sons is an idea that borders on sacrilege? Vote below and let us know your thoughts.
