According to TheWrap, Patton was chosen over two other actresses who were testing for the part, Lauren German and Kristen Kreuk. Paula Patton, who most recently starred in 'Precious' and 'Just Wright,' and will play a new ADA in 'Law & Order: SVU,' has signed on as a new operative opposite Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in the fourth installment of the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise.
According to TheWrap, Patton was chosen over two other actresses who were testing for the part, Lauren German and Kristen Kreuk.
The new 'M:I' film, which is budgeted at $150 million, will be directed by Brad Bird and, according to sources, will not be titled 'Mission: Impossible 4.' Insiders at Paramount, which is co-financing the film with Skydance Productions, have been referring to the project as 'Aries.' Production is set for this fall.
This marks the first film for Cruise and Paramount since he left the studio four years ago in a brouhaha initiated by Sumner Redstone, CEO of Paramount owner Viacom, who felt that Cruise was behaving too erratically. The actor has since gone on to star in the moderately successful 'Valkyrie' and 'Knight and Day,' and even tried his hand at running a studio (MGM). His best success in the past four years: the obnoxious Les Grossman in 'Tropic Thunder.'
