I don't know who I feel worse for: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for never getting the chance to become The World's Greatest Action Star after the promising The Rundown, or Brendan Fraser for, well, everything. All I know is that Johnson is going to star in another kid-friendly adventure movie sequel and he's doing it by kicking Fraser out of the franchise.

The film is Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D. No word yet on whether or not they'll drop the colon and change the title to the infinitely hipper Journey 2 The Mysterious Island.

Tell us the plot, Heat Vision!

Johnson will play the boyfriend of Hutcherson's mom, who Hutcherson is forced to bring on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather. The script is loosely based on Jules Verne's "The Mysterious Island."

Hutcherson is Josh Hutcherson, who accompanied Uncle Brendan Fraser to the center of the earth in the original film and found not a core of molten magma, but another ecosystem, complete with creatures that had the habit of leaping right at the screen. I bet Hutcherson and The Rock will learn to care about each other and understand their personal feelings over the course of their adventures on the titular Mysterious Island. You just watch.

Like its predecessor, Journey 2, will be shot in 3D, allowing for total audience immersion by giving the viewer a migraine similar to the stress headaches one would actually feel on a dangerous adventure.

But what dangers will they face on this adventure? Well, Jules Verne's original story was a tale of survival, with shipwrecked folks surviving against the elements and pirates and eventually meeting an aged Captain Nemo. I'm sure the writers will find a way to throw a dinosaur or two into the mix. You know, to keep things interesting. It's what I'd do.

The movie doesn't have a start date, but you can get your Dwayne Johnson fix with Fast Five and Faster, both of which involve The Rock doing things quickly. Meanwhile, Hutcherson will not be playing Spider-Man and Brendan Fraser will be doing whatever Brendan Frasers do.
