It's a rite of passage for any young man who wants to be taken seriously as a film actor: You have to star in a buddy cop movie sooner or later.

Risky Business reports that Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper are joining together to take a stab at the genre in an untitled action comedy. The script was written by Sheldon Turner ('Up in the Air').

The film, originally titled 'Blowback,' will feature Reynolds and Cooper as two San Francisco policemen whose respective fathers were also cops. The elder generation comes out of retirement to help their sons crack a case, which results in all sorts of antagonism.

Ryan Reynolds will next be seen in the indie thriller, 'Buried,' opening Oct. 10. He'll be appearing next summer as test pilot Hal Jordan in 'Green Lantern,' opening Jun. 17, 2011.

Bradley Cooper was most recently seen in 'The A-Team' and will also be seen in an upcoming thriller, 'The Dark Fields,' opening Mar. 18, 2011.
