Director Danny Boyle has already put his own spin on the post-apocalyptic zombie flick (28 Days Later...), the pre-apocalyptic sci-fi journey (Sunshine) and the Bollywood love story (Slumdog Millionaire), so why shouldn't he make the true-life story of Aron Ralston seem a bit more exciting than just "Nature Guy Gets Pinned by Boulder, Audience Leaves Inspired"?
Of course, that's where the newly released trailer leaves us hanging (no pun intended), and our investment will rest almost entirely on James Franco's performance from there on out. Boyle, meanwhile, will have to walk a fine line between endurance test (I hear that things get gruesome) and a genuinely captivating experience. It already looks like Anthony Dod Mantle and Enqirue Chediak are meeting him halfway with their vibrant cinematography.
Also starring Kate Mara, Lizzy Caplan and Amber Tamblyn, 127 Hours will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month before closing out October's London Film Festival and opening on November 5th.
