CATEGORIES Movies, Coming Soon

For the last year, all eyes have been glued to the continuing saga of Sandra Bullock's private life. But for many film fans the real question isn't "what will happen to Sandra next" but rather "what movie will Sandra do next;" after all, considering she's coming off an Oscar win for 'The Blind Side' and box office supremacy in 'The Proposal,' she has Hollywood at her feet. Yet, despite this, the famously choosy star has been in no hurry to sign on to a new project, preferring to wait until just the right part comes along.

Well, that wait may now be over: according to Variety, Bullock is close to signing a deal to co-star in 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.' And her rumored co-star? Why, Tom Hanks of course.

If the pairing of America's sweetheart with America's favorite leading man seems too good to be true, one only needs to take a look at the movie's pedigree to see why the two A-listers would be interested. Based on the acclaimed 2003 novel of the same name, 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' is being produced by Scott Rudin, who in recent years has been churning out high-profile award magnets like 'No Country For Old Men,' 'Doubt' and 'Revolutionary Road.' In addition, the novel was adapted by screenwriter Eric Roth, who previously wrote the script for 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.'

Of course, even if they both sign on, there's still some key casting to do; 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' centers on a nine-year-old boy who finds a key belonging to his father, who was killed during the attacks on Sept. 11, and the boy's attempts to find the matching lock. Finding just the right child actor to hold his own with the likes of Bullock and Hanks is going to be no mean feat.

Still, if anyone can pull off this tricky subject matter and get moviegoers to actually see it despite the still raw subject matter, it's no doubt the team of Bullock and Hanks. So here's hoping Sandra ends up inking the deal. Because as much as we'd love to see this pairing, we love it even more if the focus could return to where it belongs: not on her off-screen private life, but on her increasingly excellent n-screen body of work.
