'(500) Days of Summer' Soundtrack'(500) Days of Summer' is a welcome change from the standard "boy-meets-girl" formula employed by many of its counterparts. The nonlinear storyline follows various points in the relationship arc of its two main characters – Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) and Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Given the random, time-travelling nature of '(500) Days of Summer,' you may also expect the film's soundtrack to be a chaotic jumble of musical genres that somehow manage to relate to one another. But, you'll be proved wrong. '(500) Days of Summer' Soundtrack'(500) Days of Summer' is a welcome change from the standard "boy-meets-girl" formula employed by many of its counterparts. From the slumber-inducing harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bookends' to the distorted snarl of Wolfmother's 'Vagabond' to The Temper Trap's dreamy melodic churn in 'Sweet Disposition,' the musical collection never strays too far from the film's formula, which in this case is to give the listener a grandiose sense of romantic anticipation. The soundtrack contains two songs by The Smiths, 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out' and 'Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.' This paired, along with Regina Spektor's 'Us,' best embody the movie's pseudo-slacker cool, making full use of ambient melancholy and underlying tones of self-doubt.The soundtrack's only misfire is 'Here Comes Your Man,' covered here by Meaghan Smith but originally written by The Pixies. Smith has an angelic singing voice, but the song's instrumentation comes off as disjointed and sloppy. The result is uncomfortable at best.

All things considered, the soundtrack serves as a fitting companion to the film. While listening to this compilation of songs, you will reflect on deeper emotions, reminding yourself that somewhere, someone is falling in love. A nonlinear and random love, but love all the same.
