When I saw a headline in my RSS feed announcing that Universal was planning to change the release date of Wes Craven's My Soul to Take I was hardly surprised. We haven't seen a single teaser, trailer, TV spot or anything that really implies this is a motion picture, so outside of the horror-loving crowd, barely anyone knows what this movie even is. I was surprised, however, to see that the 3D (post-conversion) serial killer film has vacated its original late October spot for one a few weeks earlier. Yep, My Soul to Take is now coming out even sooner thanks to a new October 8th date.

Getting out of the path of Saw 3D and Paranormal Activity 2 is a very smart move on the part of Universal, but releasing a relatively unknown film even sooner is certainly a bold plan. Hopefully that means Universal will be amping up the marketing on it something fierce, which is precisely what they did when they moved Devil to this September. If not, even with the new date, I'd expect My Soul to Take will be gobbled up what is shaping up to be a fantastic month for horror movies:

October 1 - Let Me In
October 8 - My Soul to Take, I Spit on Your Grave
October 22 - Saw 3D, Hereafter
October 29 - Paranormal Activity 2

Not too shabby, October, not too shabby at all.
