Platt's signing is the latest in a rush of casting developments for the superhero prequel. Earlier today, it was reported that Rose Byrne was in talks to play genetic mutation expert Moira MacTaggert. Coming Soon also revealed that Jason Flemyng had signed to portray Azazel, the mutant father of teleporting X-Man Nightcrawler.

'X-Men: First Class,' which opens summer 2011, will also feature a crop of young actors playing fresh-faced versions of Marvel's famous mutants, including Jennifer Lawrence, Alice Eve, Nicholas Hoult, and Caleb Landry Jones.
