Ryan Murphy, who called the shots on 'Eat Pray Love,' will be directing. The project is scheduled to begin filming next summer, before Ruffalo takes on the role of a certain green-skinned monster in 'The Avengers.'

Murphy is also rumored to be on the short list to direct the film adaptation of another theatre piece: 'Wicked,' the Broadway musical based on Gregory Maguire's book, 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.'

Mark Ruffalo can currently be seen in theaters in 'The Kids Are All Right' (pictured).
