You can't keep a great comedian down: After 28 years, the life of John Belushi is being resurrected for the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'The Hangover' director-producer Todd Phillips and 'The Pursuit of Happyness' screenwriter Steven Conrad are developing a biopic about the late comedian's life, the rights to which Warner Bros. recently acquired from Belushi's estate. Phillips will produce (but has not committed to directing) and Conrad will draft the screenplay. The Chicago-born Belushi was a member of the Second City comedy troupe when he was chosen to become one of the original cast members on 'Saturday Night Live,' where he performed from 1975 until 1979. His feature film career blossomed with roles in such films as 'National Lampoon's Animal House' (1978), '1941' (1979), 'The Blues Brothers' (1980), 'Continental Divide' (1981) and 'Neighbors' (1981). He died of a drug overdose in 1982 at age 33.

A previous attempt at a Belushi biopic, 'Wired,' was mounted in 1989 with Michael Chiklis starring as the comedian. The film, based on Bob Woodward's 1985 biography, 'Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi,' was disavowed by Belushi's friends and family, and it bombed at the box office.
