One of the ongoing conflicts of my existence on this hunk of rock involves people saying "Man, there aren't any good horror films around anymore!" and my replying "No, sir and/or ma'am, you are incorrect in that regard." Yeah, there are tons of crummy horror films, but there have always been tons of crummy horror films. Being a horror buff is not easy. It requires patience and a tough hide...you have to wade through a lot of crap to find something good.

Well, that paragraph was just a roundabout way of saying that the teaser trailer for the Guillermo Del Toro produced Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is online and it's a pretty damn good tease, a masterclass in how to cut a horror trailer. A remake of a 1973 TV movie that I haven't seen, I'd be lying if I said the footage on display here is not only gorgeously shot. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't get chills during the trailer's opening moments. But that final scare? Nah, didn't get me...

Okay, lied about that one. I nearly peed my pants. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark stars Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce, opens in January 2011 and is the directorial debut of comic artist Troy Nixey. Watch the trailer after the jump.
