Melissa Leo and Dermot Mulroney are in talks to add some religion to director Kevin Smith's 'Red State,' a horror film in which a group of misfits encounter fundamentalism gone to the extreme in Middle America. According to TheWrap, Leo, Mulroney, Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano and Stephen Root are in talks to co-star in the film, which stars Michael Parks and is loosely based on Reverend Fred Phelps of the hatemongering Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas.

Joe' director Stephen Sommers ('The Mummy' franchise) was at odds with Paramount, he'll return to direct the sequel, TheWrap reported Tuesday. The site also reports that Channing Tatum is expected to reprise his role as Capt. Duke Hauser. 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' grossed more than $300 million worldwide last year.
Kurt Russell is returning to the movie scrimmage line by taking a role as a football coach in Freedom Films' 'Touchback,' which centers on a small-town farmer who looks back 15 years to the injury that ended his career as a promising high-school football player. Don Handfield is writing and directing. Brian Presley plays the ex-football player, Melanie Lynskey will play his wife and Christine Lahti will play his mother. Filming begins this week in Grand Rapids, Mich., according to The Hollywood Reporter.
