In this very dark version of the classic fairy tale, the actress plays Valerie, a girl stalked by a werewolf. She goes in search of a hunter/woodcutter to kill the beast, and I do believe she'll also fall in love with the guy (played by Shiloh Fernandez). Could wearing horns on her head be a way to attract this hunter? It looks more like she's wearing them, attached to her headband, as opposed to them growing out of her skull. But is pretending to be a deer the best way to gain the attention of a hunter?
The Girl With the Red Riding Hood also stars Julie Christie as Valerie's grandmother, Gary Oldman as a "Witchfinder General" set with the task of finding and killing the werewolf, and Lukas Haas, who can currently be seen in a small role in Inception, as the village priest. Currently shooting in Vancouver, the film is scheduled for a March 11, 2011, release.
