Or maybe not.

According to Deadline, Lindelof inked an agreement to help do some rewriting work on director Ridley Scott's 'Alien' prequel. However, the blog's "studio insiders" are reporting that when Lindelof and Scott met to hash out ideas for the project, the meeting resulted in an idea for a "free-standing" sci-fi flick that has nothing to do with the 'Alien' franchise.

It's still unclear if Lindelof's ideas will result in a new film or become part of the 'Alien' prequel. Jon Spaihts ('The Darkest Hour') penned the prequel's script for Fox, which reportedly inspired producer Scott to jump back in the director's chair.

Scott has a number of other possible directing projects lined up, including political drama 'Gucci,' an adaptation of Justin Cronin's bestseller 'The Passage,' and 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' backed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.
