Since Tim Burton confirmed with horror sources at Comic-Con last year that his next film would be a Warner Bros. Pictures adaptation of the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, fans have been aflutter. The film is set to start production in January and Burton fave Johnny Depp will be starring as vampire Barnabas Collins.

John August, who has worked with Burton on several projects including Corpse Bride, was initially attached to the project -- but Deadline is now reporting that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith will be writing the script.

Dark Shadows still has a huge fanbase with conventions and groups celebrating its history all over the world. One thing I always enjoyed about the series was its ability to attract different generations of viewers. The show featured classic horror figures like vampires and werewolves -- combined with melodramatic performances and spooky sets. There have been many revivals of the series including TV, film, comics and a few audio dramas. And how can you not love theremin?
