Just a week after word got out that Kevin Bacon was in negotiations to play the villain in X-Men: First Class, his casting is confirmed. As reported by Variety, the deal is done, but the studio is keeping his role top-secret. The article points out the fanboy websites are abuzz about Mister Sinister being the top option. That character comes packed with superhuman physical and mental powers, most notably the ability to inhibit another mutant's power.

So now we've officially got Bacon as the unknown enemy, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Lucas Till as Havok, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, James McAvoy as Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto as well as one more. According to THR, Jennifer Lawrence will play Mystique. Considering Amber Heard has been the name linked to the role played by Rebecca Romijn in the original three films, news of Lawrence snagging the part is quite surprising.

The article touts her as being the star of Winter's Bone, a film I've yet to see, but have only heard the best of. However, I did catch her performance in Guillermo Arriaga's The Burning Plain and while the film isn't quite up to par with his previous work (writing credits included), Lawrence certainly proves she's able to work with and command any material. There would have been nothing wrong with choosing Heard for the role, but giving Lawrence the spot will likely take the character in a new direction. Heard's resume is packed with big studio films that, while many of them are quite good, don't permit her to get gritty like Lawrence's past projects.

One curious piece to THR's article is the inclusion of Aaron Johnson's name. Just last week a little rumor floated around that Johnson was confirmed for Cyclops. However, later that day the news was quashed completely by Entertainment Weekly. Did THR miss that one or is Johnson really back in the mix? We'll likely find out soon enough because come the end of the summer, the whole cast will have to get together in England for filming.
