But enough about me. 'Salt' opens July 23, and stars Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent who's been accused of being involved in a plot to assassinate the president. She's on the run from the CIA while also trying to clear her name and stop the plot. So let's get to the game, shall we? The 'Salt' web game 'Day X Exists' unveiled its ninth and final mission yesterday, marking the end of a bold experiment in viral film marketing. Moviefone has been along for the entire nine-week ride, playing each stage of the game and reporting on the results and experience. Somewhere along the line, what started as an excuse to play video games in the office morphed into something far deeper, a feeling I can't quite describe. All I know is that I desperately want, no, need, to see this movie as soon as possible to preserve my mental sanity and achieve some much-needed closure.

Mission 9: Shoot Out
The name of this mission is exciting. Will I finally get the chance to take out all these nefarious characters I've been tracking for the past two months? Lord, I hope so.
Okay, here's the call from Agent Salt. She's located a bunch of Day X plotters in a warehouse. She says Day X can be stopped tonight, if we can take out every last one of them. Unfortunately, now the CIA is after us because of our collaboration with Agent Salt. Don't they understand we're the good guys here? Or, are we? The truth is, we've never really known who to believe in this complicated maze of spy games. All I know is, there are a bunch of former Russian KGBs in that warehouse, and they're going down. How do I know this? I know this because it's a video game, and I can play the level as many times as it takes me to kill everyone.
Mission 9 is really fun. There are bad guys hiding behind boxes, you've got a gun with a six bullet clip, and you can reload and duck out of the way of their fire by hitting the space bar. The experience reminded me of going bison-hunting in the original Oregon Trail computer game, except instead of hunting bison, we're hunting Russian spies. It's great fun. Rapid-fire and engaging. After three tries I was able to get deadly accurate with my mouse, and by the end I was doling out headshots like a sniper.
The shootout leaves our main suspects Hicks, Johnson and Simms dead. Rest in peace, spies. But it's not a totally rosy picture. While our heroic shootout has cleared our name with the CIA, Agent Salt is still suspected of being a traitor. And she leaves us by saying that while we did a good job, we never asked her the right question ... Who is Salt? I should have known; it was written on the movie poster all along. So while this tangled web of intrigue now seems murkier than ever, at least the shootout was cathartic, if not totally clarifying.
We do know that the Day X plot will hit July 23rd. Isn't that the same day 'Salt' comes out? Why yes, yes it is. Now, the only thing left to do is go out and see this movie. Because let's face it, at this point, it's the only way out. It's been a wild ride, people. See you on the other side.
