Were you afraid they'd one day remake Planes, Trains and Automobiles? Because I think they kinda have, and we've got the trailer to prove it, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. Actually it's for the new Todd Phillips comedy, Due Date, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis as an odd couple on a cross country road trip. RDJ is basically the Steve Martin character, a father trying to get home to his family, while ZG is the obnoxious part reminiscent of John Candy's role in the John Hughes classic. There are two others on board, though, at least for part of the trip: Jamie Foxx, who doesn't do much in this first look, and a little French bulldog who gets sneezed on.

In addition to Planes, Trains and Automobiles (only the last vehicle appears to be used here), Due Date also has elements of other Phillips movies. Obviously Road Trip, and then also there are bits of The Hangover, except in this comedy a character has to get back to see his child being born rather than to get married. The part where the car runs off the bridge also reminds me of a scene from Old School. No sign here of Michelle Monaghan, who plays Downey's expectant wife. But that's okay, because given his popularity these days it makes sense to initially sell the movie primarily on Galifianakis, who almost seems to be reprising the same annoying idiot role from The Hangover that he broke out with.

Check out the trailer after the jump and let us know if you're getting to the point where you want to choke Galifianakis out, too.
