Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables arrives in theaters on August 13th -- and it's debuting against the Julia Roberts film Eat, Pray, Love. This fact is not lost on the guys at The Monocular Group, who've just released a new fan trailer for the star-packed action film on YouTube -- a clip urging men to head to the theater and save Hollywood from teen girls in love with vampires and movies based on books that Oprah loves. This teaser says there's a cinematic gender war brewing, and Sly and company just drew first blood.
Sure ladies, the new Expendables clip is totally sexist -- but that's the point. Personally, I'd rather see this film than anything with Julia Roberts in it. Some of us actually enjoy seeing things get blown up by men who'd rather get punched in the mouth than get in touch with their feminine side.
Objections that some people will have to the tone aside, it's a pretty clever piece of marketing that spends time telling guys it's their duty as men to see this movie and not allow Eat, Pray, Love to dominate the box office that weekend. Then it jumps right into the action, highlighting each of the stars of the film. It's a who's who of action movie royalty. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Statham, Jet Li ... the list just goes on and on.
Check out the clip after the jump. Is this getting you fired up to see The Expendables?
