Torture films typically rub me then wrong way and after The Human Centipede I've practically sworn off the subgenre entirely, but between the festival buzz surrounding and this enticingly terrifying trailer, the only thing holding me back from The Loved Ones is that there's no US release. The film did acquire distribution in Australia, which is why we've got this trailer, but that's just not going to be enough for us here in the states.
It's really quite surprising a film like this wouldn't have domestic distribution companies drooling all over it. With franchise like Saw flourishing despite diminishing quality, folks here in the US have a particularly strong taste for kidnap and torture flicks. As a matter of fact, how about we do away with Saw 3D The Traps Come Alive all together and put The Loved Ones in its place? According to our own Erik Childress' review from back in March when the film showed at South By Southwest, it should have wider appeal than you'd expect. He calls it "a genuinely crafty surprise" and points out that while it does have a handful of gory moments, it knows when to ditch the visuals and let the soundtrack handle the suspense.

My apologies to our readers and to Ms. Nemiroff, who has not yet seen The Loved Ones, and is therefore unaware that this is perhaps the most spoiler-tastic trailer ever produced. As someone who's seen the film twice, and quite enjoyed it, I thought it my responsibility to remove the embed clip from the site. We simply want the horror fans to see this fine flick without key points being spoiled. If you simply don't care, that's cool. Check out the trailer right here at Twitch.
