Ever wanted to break into the movie biz? Have a hot idea you're certain would make a fantastic feature film? Then this could be the big break you've been looking for. American Express is currently running a YouTube contest in conjunction with the Tribeca Film Festival. The rules are simple -- make a video of yourself in one minute or less, pitching an idea for a movie. Once it's posted on YouTube, the great democracy known as the Internet will vote on the submissions and choose a winner. Your prize for emerging victorious? Having your pitch idea turned into a short feature directed by a Tribeca filmmaker and a VIP pass to the premiere of your dream project at next year's festival. Who knows where that could lead?
As you can imagine, submissions are pouring in. There are some gems out there with a real shot at getting made, but for every one of those there seem to be at least five really hilarious pitches that probably won't win, but do provide some entertainment for your time. Some are so outrageous that you just have to see them for yourself. So, with that in mind, hop past the jump and check out ten of the funniest submissions we've found so far.
Whenever I'm trapped in enclosed spaces like an elevator or a bus, I get all Howard Hughes when people start sneezing or hacking up a lung all over the back of my neck. It's disgusting and this guy totally gets my nightmare. Ah the horrors of allergy season -- where only a Zyrtec can save you save you from the impending apocalypse.
I dunno guys, this introduction is creeping me out far more than aborted fetuses in a furniture store.
3. Zombie Inc.
Just when you thought you'd seen every possible zombie crossover imaginable, along comes a zombie apocalypse inspired by inflation. Get Ben Bernanke on the line -- maybe he can lower interest rates and save us all.
4. Common Bond
AllanHolly's Common Bond -- a pitch about a forbidden love triangle between a dying priest, a nun, and a prostitute. Hotness. Best moment? The revelatory moment where the prostitute and nun realize that "they're very much alike." I love when that happens.
5. The Painter
He had me until I realized that there wasn't going to be a plumber coming over too, offering to lay some pipe.
I'm fascinated by dreams. I'm even more fascinated by imagining this guy is the love child of the two Coreys. That's a compliment Sir!
7. The Humanitarian
J. Wellington Wimpy from Popeye introduces this one.
8. My Idea
9. Instant Celebrity
This guy might win by mind control alone.
10. My Movie Pitch
Aww -- mini-me Justin Bieber.
