- It was proposed back in May, but now it's officially been decided that the Visual Effects category for the Academy Awards will now include five nominees rather the traditional three. Regardless, who thinks Inception is the film to beat? The Oscars also have adjusted the rules for the animated feature category, shrinking the length qualification from 70 min. to 40 min.

- Rain Man director Barry Levinson will follow his hit made-for-cable biopic You Don't Know Jack with another biopic titled Brother Jack, about human rights activist Jack Healey. Perhaps he can make it a Jack biopic trilogy. Who should be next, Jack London, Jack T. Chick, Jack Hanna or Jack Nicholson?

- Seven years in the making, the lesbian werewolf movie Jack and Diane is currently shooting in NYC with stars Juno Temple (Year One) and Riley Keough (The Runaways). They may not be original cast duo Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby, but if that lesbian Twilight parody is correct, guys will flock to this thing regardless of who's in it.

- Looks like I'm going to have to take a trip up to Canada next weekend if I want to see Jaco van Dormael's Mr. Nobody, a sci-fi flick starring Sarah Polley and Jared Leto that still has no U.S. distribution three years after its completion. This isn't too surprising as we're also still waiting on DVD releases for the fantastic Toto the Hero and so-so The Eighth Day.

- After winning the Golden Bear in Berlin for the first Elite Squad, Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha returned to documentary for a double dip with Secrets of the Tribe and Garapa. Now he's back with Elite Squad 2. The following is an un-subtitled collection of scenes that have me excited for more violent clashes between the BOPE and the favela drug dealers:
