A sobbing Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail Tuesday for violating the terms of her probation in a drunken driving case.

Beverly Hills Judge Marsha Revel ordered the 24-year-old actress to begin serving her sentence in an L.A. County jail on July 20. This follows a June 8 arrest warrant issued for Lohan for violating her probation -- she failed to complete her court-ordered alcohol education classes stemming from a 2007 drunk driving incident and missed her last court appearance in May while attending the Cannes Film Festival in France.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lohan told the judge, "I have to provide for myself. I have to work. Having said that, I did everything to balance my jobs and showing up. I'm not taking this as a joke. It's my life. It's my career." But the judge would have none of that; she scolded the actress for being less than truthful about her alcohol and drug intake before passing sentence.

How the jail time will affect Lohan's current work is unknown: She recently was cast opposite Bill Pullman in 'Lovelace,' an independent biopic about Linda Lovelace, the actress who starred in 1972's 'Deep Throat,' and has been promoting her fashion line of leg warmers.
