One of the films that defined my early years as a budding horror fan is Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead. The film that made Bruce Campbell a household name (well, among horror fans) holds the distinction of being one of my first obsessions, and over the past ten or so years I have owned several copies, losing or lending out with no chance of return, well, all of them. This might end up being a good thing, as it has finally been announced that the film is making its debut on the illustrious Blu-ray format.

Hitting the streets on August 31st, 2010, the release will retail for about $29.95 with pre-orders beginning on August 4th. The disc contains two all-new 1080p anamorphic transfers in 1.85 and the original 1.33 aspect ratio release, all presented in high-res Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio. Of course, most people are probably also clamoring for the special features, of which there are a metric buttload.
