Update: According to Devin's source at CHUD, Will.i.am is making this whole story up.
I love James Cameron. Not because I love his movies, though I certainly do. No, I love James Cameron because every few months a bit of news comes out about him that results in headlines that seem to come right out of left field. First he was going to radically alter the way the world perceived Jesus Christ. Then he started calling a certain cable news pundit an asshole. Then he was going to stop everything and solve the oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico. And now he's apparently directing a 3D Black Eyed Peas concert film.
Nope, that's not a joke; James Cameron is directing a 3D Black Eyed Peas concert film.
Pop Crunch relays the news to us, which comes by way of a comment from band member (and Wolverine star) Will.i.am to VIBE magazine, "Right now, we are planning our 3D tour movie, and James Cameron is directing it – we have the biggest director, because we are the biggest group on the planet." His ego aside, this fascinating news to me. Not because it's so unbelievable that Cameron would direct a concert film - he's no stranger to documentaries or eccentric projects - but that Cameron would even be a fan of the Black Eyed Peas in the first place.
If you'd like to appear in said film, you might want to start following the band in a bus. Will.iam doesn't identify specifically which concert will be the one that ends up on the big screen, but he does say that it will be during their South American tour and that the movie will come out next year.
As a reminder, this is what it looked like the last time James Cameron directed a music video:
