Rango posterSo which A-list Hollywood star would you get to voice an Acapulco shirt-wearing chameleon with an identity crisis? Hmmm, if ever a role had Johnny Depp written all over it then this it.

The movie is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and tells the story of a pet chameleon who is abandoned by his family in the middle of the Mojave desert and finds himself in a world he has never been exposed to. Encountering giant toads and mariachi owls, avoiding predatory hawks and trying to figure out who he is, the little lizard has a lot on his plate and he doesn't seem to be handling the stress very well.

Watch the trailer after the jump... Rango posterSo which A-list Hollywood star would you get to voice an Acapulco shirt-wearing chameleon with an identity crisis? Hmmm, if ever a role had Johnny Depp written all over it then this it. And you can see (or at least hear) Mr Depp in action below in the just released trailer for new animated movie, Rango.

The movie is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and also stars the vocal talents of Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, and Timothy Olyphant.

The story, of course, revolves around Depp's character, Rango, a pet chameleon who is abandoned by his family in the middle of the Mojave desert and finds himself in a world he has never been exposed to. Encountering giant toads and mariachi owls, avoiding predatory hawks and trying to figure out who he is, the little lizard has a lot on his plate and he doesn't seem to be handling the stress very well.

And for a little more insight, Bill Nighy recently revealed this about his character in the film: "I play a very, very bad guy. I'm a rattlesnake and I am a gun-slinging assassin. I literally have a Gatling gun - I have a machine gun in my tail - so I can just spray the whole town. I can kill everybody whenever I wish. I'm brought in by the corrupt sheriff to sort things out."

Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a while to see Rango in your local cinema as the film is set for a March 2011 release. Until then, enjoy the trailer...
