Variety reports that Paramount is the first studio in 2010 to cross the $1 billion mark in the U.S. It's also the first studio in history to earn over $1 billion, domestically, for four consecutive years.

For several years, Paramount lagged behind other studios, but it's received a major shot of adrenaline under the guidance of CEO Brad Grey and vice chair Rob Moore.

Paramount has developed a savvy, lean-and-mean strategy under Grey and Moore, embracing quality over quantity. Of the films released in 2010, Paramount's 'Iron Man 2' (pictured) is the number-two earner, right behind Disney's 'Alice in Wonderland.'

Martin Scorsese's 'Shutter Island' was also a major success for the studio this year, earning over $128 million in the U.S.

Paramount is set to continue its successful year with the release of 'The Last Airbender' on July 1.
