When all was said and done, [REC] was a far better movie than Quarantine. I know some disagreed with me, but they're clearly wrong. [REC] was the superior film in that it had a better explanation of events, was for more terrifying, and, well, it had nothing to be compared to. I'm sure Quarantine would have been a fine film had it not been a remake, but alas, this is what we have to deal with on a regular basis. It was recently announced that Quarantine 2 will take place in an airport, so unlike the first film, there won't be a basis for comparison, as [REC] takes place immediately after the events of the first film.

That was all that was really known about the film until Bloody Disgusting recently received some exclusive information concerning casting for Quarantine 2. Facing the virus that turns people into crazed loonies will be Mercedes Masohn (Red Sands) and Josh Cooke, who has made his mark as an actor in a number of shows such as "The Closer" and "Numbers," as well as the hilarious sex comedy Young People F**ing.

I don't know how I feel about this sequel. While I admire the fact that it possesses an original story, it will also be the feature directorial debut of John Pogue, whose primary credits include penning the films U.S. Marshals, The Skulls and Ghost Ship. With that known, it's kind of disconcerting knowing he also wrote the script to the film. The idea of the outbreak reaching an airport is pretty exciting, though, so I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Quarantine 2 will be released straight-to-DVD and is currently being filmed in the Los Angeles area.
