Robert Pattinson has gotten a lot of flack for his sparkly vamp Edward in The Twilight Saga. He mopes too much; he's too stoic; he makes weird facial expressions; he doesn't have fangs; what have you. But if you take a look back into his genealogical history, he might have the most right to go vamp. Or at least, the most direct experience because Ancestry.com claims that Pattinson is distantly related to Vlad the Impaler, the man who became immortalized as Count Dracula.

Reuters quotes genealogist Anastasia Tyler: "Tracing Pattinson's family back to Vlad was difficult research, but the pieces that unraveled created the perfect accompaniment to The Twilight Saga." It does come at a convenient time, doesn't it? Eclipse has reached its fever pitch as fans camp out for premieres and the film gets shipped to theaters for release next week. What a prime time to get the website some publicity.

But it's not just blood lust in Pattinson's past...

See, they think the actor is linked to Vlad through the royal family, saying that he's a distant cousin of Prince William and Harry, "probably through the Pickering family who lived in northern England in the early 1500s." ...probably?

This is the same site that claimed last year that Emma Watson is related to a woman in the 16th century who was accused of witchcraft. Maybe it's true, but press releases during the Eclipse rush, "probably," and almost 600 years between now and Vlad's ghastly rule don't inspire much confidence.

We'll see if Rob hits Who Do You Think You Are (where Sarah Jessica Parker learned that an ancestor faced witchcraft charges during trials in 1692) and makes his way to Transylvania.
