Over the past few weeks the remake of the popular 1985 vampire flick Fright Night has been in the news like whoa, most recently with the announcement that the uber cute and hilariously named Imogen Poots of 28 Weeks Later fame has been cast as Amy, the girlfriend of protagonist Charley, being played by Anton Yelchin. Now that the major casting has been completed, we can focus on a release date.

Set to begin filming next month, Arrow in the Head has brought to our attention by way of Box Office Mojo that Fright Night remake, which will be shot in the dreaded third dimension, is set to hit theaters October 7th of 2011. This is significant due to the long-running popularity of the Saw franchise, and assuming we're given an 8th film, Fright Night 3D will have some major competition.

The implementation of 3D notwithstanding, this remake is looking to be pretty interesting, sporting an impressive cast that includes, in addition to Poots and Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Tennant, Toni Collette and Asim Ahmad. The film will be set in Las Vegas, incorporating the location by making vampire killer Peter Vincent, played in the original by Roddy McDowall and in the remake by Tennant, a Vegas-based magician with an imaged based on horror movies. The flick will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who prior film credits include Lars and the Real Girl and Mr. Woodcock.
