Is it just me, or does it seem really strange that Josh Brolin is co-starring in a movie with Megan Fox? Doesn't he seem too... I don't know... respectable and established to be sharing the spotlight with Fox in 'Jonah Hex'? A-list actresses like Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie or even his real-life lady, Diane Lane, seem more aligned with his caliber. For some reason even Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith in 'The Karate Kid' makes more sense to me as a movie duo.

Speaking of unlikely movie pairings, what's the deal with Maria Bello playing Kevin James' wife in 'Grown Ups'? I mean, come on. His character may be the nicest, funniest guy in the world, but I just don't buy them as a couple. Even the Salma Hayek/ Adam Sandler pairing in 'Grown Ups' seems less suspect, although still, you've got to suspend your disbelief for that one, too.

Unlikely movie duos aren't just limited to couples, either. There are plenty of mismatched actors playing pals in flicks, too. And I'm not talking about mismatched for comedic effect, either, a la Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in 'Rush Hour'. I'm talking about 'What the heck was the casting director thinking??' type of mismatches. With that in mind, in no particular order, here are the top ten mismatched movie duos – both romantic and platonic -- in recent memory.

1. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey in 'Failure to Launch'

Something's a little off about this pairing. I mean, I can't imagine SJP surfing or playing bongos! And McConaughey-hey doesn't seem remotely interested in shoes. In fact, he's barefoot most of the time!

2. Sarah Jessica Parker and Zooey Deschanel in 'Failure to Launch'

These two hang out? Really? On what planet would they wind up as roommates? Besides, if SJP's character is so "together," why does she even need a roommate at her age?

3. Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant in 'Did You Hear About the Morgans?'

This match was clearly made in a boardroom, and definitely not on e-Harmony.

4. John Travolta and Robin Williams in 'Old Dogs'

Just because they're roughly the same age doesn't mean they'll make believable buds.

5. Evan Rachel Wood and Larry David in 'Whatever Works'

I don't think this one even requires an explanation.

6. Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson in 'Bride Wars'

I get it. The studio is thinking, 'Hey, let's get a popular blonde chick-flick star and put her in a movie with a popular brunette chick-flick star!' But come on. Anne and Kate as friends? That's a head-scratcher. Anne is so rigid, and Kate is so fun-loving and free. I know opposites attract, but in this case I really don't buy it. They're just too different.

7. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jeff Bridges in 'Crazy Heart'

In theory, sure. I can see how this might seem like a good match. She's quirky, he's The Dude. But the age gap is just too wide to make these two a believable couple. Even as a 'He's totally wrong for her' couple, as this was intended.

8. Jason Bateman and Ben Affleck in 'Extract'

These two are drinking buddies? Mr. Beefcake and Mr. Boy Next Door? I don't think so.

9. Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in 'The Mexican'

He's a big star. She's a big star. Too bad they don't have any chemistry whatsoever.

10. Scarlett Johannson and Rebecca Hall in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona
'

Something just doesn't ring true about this pair. I can't quite put my finger on it, but really, can you picture them telling each other their deepest, darkest secrets?
