At first, the news sounded oh, so sweet as my eyes flitted across the roster of names. First up: "Slater" -- as in Christian Slater, one of my favorite actors from my younger days, who I've been hoping would find some better gigs. Second, there was "Oldman," as in Gary Oldman, the wonderful actor who has embodied everything from Dracula to Beethoven. Third ... "Cook." Not "cook," like the other two are going to be chefs and give us another great foodie film, but Dane Cook, the guy often slammed for joke thievery, whose starring gigs -- Good Luck Chuck -- are nothing to get excited about.

Could it be true that these three are working together? Oh yes, hit the jump and read on.

THR's Heat Vision
reports that Slater, Oldman, and Cook are going to star in writer/director Michael Winnick's Guns, Girls & Gambling, which is slated to begin shooting next month on July 6. "The story throws Elvis impersonators, Indians, modern cowboys, a 6-foot-tall blond assassin, a frat boy, a corrupt sheriff and a prostitute into a chase for a priceless American Indian artifact stolen during a poker game at an Indian casino." Slater is some random drunk dude who joins an Elvis impersonation contest, and the best bit about this news is that Oldman comes in not as some casino baddie, but as the contest's "mega-contender." Cook, meanwhile, plays the sheriff.

With all of that, it sounds like a comedy, right? Nope. This is a crime thriller. How it comes together is anyone's guess, as is why they'd cast Cook as the sheriff, but at least it's got Oldman impersonating Elvis.
