Jaime Reyes is not my Blue Beetle. Genius inventor Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle I know, was killed by DC Comics, because that's what DC likes to do -- kill their beloved characters. He was, of course, replaced with someone younger and more hip, and although I like the new Blue Beetle's costume, I never paid much attention to his short-lived comic book.

How is it that then such an obscure character may be Warner Brothers next live-action foray into DC's pantheon? According to writer Geoff Johns, "I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn't final. This isn't greenlit. It's only a test that was done. We still have a long way to go to see if we can get this off the ground..."

Slash Film has the pics from Johns himself, who says that WB is eying Blue Beetle for a television series -- think Spider-Man meets Iron Man. The series would follow Reyes, an unassuming teenager fused to a mystical scarab which transforms into a powerful, unpredictable suit of armor. Johns suspects he'll have more to say about the project at the San Diego Comic-Con, so we'll have more as it comes.
