Billie Piper, ex-teen popster, and ex-wife of Chris Evans, looks set to gain 'Stateside stardom' (according to The Sun) with a movie based on her popular television series Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

The ITV show, currently in production for its fourth series, has been considered a 'smash' for US channel HBO (known for The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm and other stellar small screen entertainment), hence the desire for an even naughtier feature length version. Anyway, the US TV success of this sordid little tale has given the source material a new lease of life. As Piper admitted recently: "I'm about to start filming the fourth series and then that will be it. I'm not sure it has legs past four seasons so we're trying to develop a movie."

Apparently, it's the successful transition of Sex And The City from TV to big screen that's inspiring the producers but I would hardly say that the two programmes are similar. While part of the success of SATC2 has been the group viewings (organised on Facebook, naturally) where gangs of ladies hit the cinema en masse, dressed up in their best designers, I doubt that we'll see online ads to the effect of 'Call Girl screening at the multiplex tonight! Don't forget your stilettos, nappy and gimp mask!'
