And dang it if Keith Coogan isn't crying somewhere. Between this and the Adventures in Babysitting remake and the very likelihood of both Toy Soldiers and Hiding Out being revisited at some point, the poor guy's career is the latest being made obsolete. I just hope his replacement isn't made to utter his iconic line, "the dishes are done, man." I don't know of any young actor who could do it justice. In the original, Coogan and Applegate played teen siblings whose elderly babysitter dies while their mother is vacationing in Australia.
There are three other siblings, too, including those played by Danielle Harris (of Halloween sequel and reboot fame) and late child actor Christopher Pettiet, who Applegate's big sis character ends up in charge of. To support the family, she manages to get a job and subsequently a promotion at a clothing company that apparently doesn't check references or confirm employment history. Or mind having a fashion show in a suburban backyard. And along the way, she falls for Josh Charles (as did our own Jen Yamato).
At the time, Applegate was only a few years older than her character, but at 20 she could easily pass for both 17 and 28, as her character feigned. Who could do the same in the remake? Of today's starlets, I haven't a clue. Any ideas?
