I'm gonna need a bigger toy shelf.
The producers of Voltron have scrapped plans for a big screen spinoff and are developing a TV reboot and a new toyline instead.
The new Voltron: Defender of the Universe animated series will debut on Nicktoons next year, just in time for the franchise's 25th anniversary. The cable net has given the new show a 26-episode order, reports Variety.
Mattel will also celebrate Voltron's anniversary next year with new toys based on the classic cartoon series as well as the new show, which, of course, is billed as an "edgier" version of the '80s sci-fi 'toon.
The announcement follows last week news that Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. are bringing Thundercats back to the small screen. That series is getting a brand new toyline too, albeit from crap toymakers Bandai.
It's hard to get too excited about these reboots. The new shows are obviously aimed at the kiddos and not the aging geeks who watched the original series and bought the classic toys back in the day. But at least we might have some cool new toys to collect and, as is the case with Voltron, connect.
