Rudd's Brother focuses on "an idealist dealing with his over-bearing mother who crashed at the homes of his three ambitious sisters and brings truth, happiness, and a sunny disposition into their lives while also wreaking havoc." I'm not so sure how ambitious the girls are, but they are definitely at different stages of life: Banks is a career-driven journalist about to make her big break away from writing about fashion accessories, Deschanel is dating Jones, though her "flakiness and lies" are hurting their relationship, and finally Mortimer is so obsessed with familial perfection as a "Park Slope mom" that she doesn't realize that her marriage is falling apart.
I could do without the stereotypical characters, but really, this is all Rudd's game, and he's custom-made for this role. Better yet, I can't even begin to imagine this film's potential as his character's good nature clashes with his sister's lives. I just hope he channels a little old-school Wyatt Tripps.
One big role remains: Over-bearing mom. How perfect would it be if they grabbed Lily Tomlin?
